// **************** Naval Quotes & Wisdom ****************** //
"The increasing consumerization of everything"
"Every human is capable of every experience and every thought."
"Humans are multi-variant"
The Greeks and Romans had the good model: (“there is an arc to life")
Young, you learn and go to school
Then you go to war
They you start a business
Then you join the senate
Then you become a philosopher
"Try your hand at everything (specialization is for insects)."
"You have one life, do everything you want to do."
I would rather read the 100 best books until I understand them instead of 1000’s of books
"if you get enough advice it all cancels to zero"
"I want to be rich and anonymous, not poor and famous"
"We live in the age of infinite leverage … good decision making can impact thousands/millions of people … podcasts … social media …. blogs ….. investing capital … software ….. "
"Low stress is more important" …. (Buffet example)
"!! Used the corner grocer as example of hard worker ….. "
"What you do, who you do it with, how you do it …. way more important than how hard you work"
"Knowledge worker athlete …. train hard, sprint, rest ….. reassessment ……… linear output is for machines"
"You can’t get rich renting out your time ……"
"Own a business, equity, ….. to be succesful"
Artificial Intelligence
"People who talk about general AI have never coded ….. coding is thinking …. automating programming ….. structured thinking …. AI that can think …. this is end game … 100’s of years to get there …"
"No where near close to general AI ….. "
"AI hype is Overblown …. cassandra complex (end of world) and god complex (lost religion replacement)" …..
"Narrow AI …. effectively crude forms of pattern recognition ……. "
"We don’t know how the brain works …. never modeled an amoeba …. nature is parsamonioius, meaning uses everything at it's disposal …… "
"50 years to simulate a cell accurately …… "
"every intelligence is contextual ….. "
Brain is most amazing wetware object every created ... binary modeling is not feasible (or reliable) at this point
Family Analogy for Socialists / Communists / Capitalism
"Not a zero sum game - everyone can be wealthy"
"Capitalism ... is a Positive sum, ethical game"
"Looters have been the bankers - caused socialists to rise and want to burn down the system"
Socialism comes from heart, Capitalism comes from the head:
Nasem Talib
With my family I am a communist
With my close friends I am a socialist
With my locallevel politics I am a Democrat
At a higher levels (State) I am a Republican
With my federal level politics I am a Libertarian
i.e. the Larger the group, the more towards capitalism and the individual one must focus.
It's about TRUST. The larger the group, the less trust.
"Escape competition by authenticity" --- no one compete with you if you are you
"Compound Interest is an important source .... "
"Ultimate purpose of money is Freedom .... don't have to do what you don't want to do"
"Productize Your Self .... "
"Accountability ..... fail publicly"
Book to read: "Skin in the Game" ......

UnWired Episode 17: Ben Sperling GenX OpEd
Generation X – The Greatest Generation For Today’s Problems - Podcast The Boomer Generation has been called the Greatest Generation. World War 2 babies, they worked hard, and had tight family units. People generally made sacarifies and put family first over their dreams. The second greatest Generation could be Generation X. Learned by example that hardwork, the value of the earning a dollar, and personal integrity like someone’s word is extremely important.
I maybe overstating the importance of this forgotten generation but maybe I am not. In times of crisis like now, the Gen Xers maybe perfect to rise to the call. I had the pleasure of reading an article from CityPaper.com by Courtney Dabney “It took a Pandemic But The Generation X in Finally Getting Some Love.”
Left at home alone while parents worked, so called latch key kids, we were survivors. We took take of ourselves. Boredom led to creativity. We may toys from sticks, built tree houses from spare wood we found construction sites.
We had to be patient because nothing was immediate. There were no DVRs for TV shows. If you missed your favorite Tv show, you didn’t get to see it until a re-run.
This no helicopter society lead to countless adventures during the day with my friends when I was young. The only rule was to be at home unharmed when the street lights came on. We were the generation of selt belt optional and very little political correctness. Entertainment like Monty Python, Sanford and Son, All in The Family capture everyones’s attention New was just the facts like Dano from Dragnet would say. Today’s news is so bias, the American people are trained not to think for themselves.
I would venture to say that Gen X is one of most self sufficient and free thinking generations thus far. So why does it make GenXers the perfect to survive a lockdown?
Patience from decades of boredom that lead to creativity. Millinials who have been wrapped up in social media, which I believe has led to the mental health issue “Fromo” The fear of missing out. Well right now, you aren’t missing out on anything.
My Clip of the day is from Farris Bullars Day Off. A cult classic from the 80’s. Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop of check it out, you will miss it.
Our current situation of sheltering in place is giving ever person a moment to slow down and figure out what means most to them. What will you want to spend your time on when we can leave our house.
